One, Two, Three

I know I've been a little scarce on the post front, but some major things have been happening behind the scenes. In brief, I'll go from frivolous to scarily serious; that's the only way I can broach number 3:

1. We saw Morrissey on Saturday night and, as someone who only dabbled in The Smiths, I can say without any fangirl-ness that it was absolutely awesome.

2. Today marks four years for BF and I. That's the flowers and fruit anniversary. Three years was leather and crystal. I can't believe I missed the opportunity for this kind of stuff:

Leather dress, $135 (Isn't this in style now, too?)

Genuine Crystal Handcuffs, $98.99

3. My mom's awesome, amazing, wonderful boyfriend was diagnosed with renal cancer about two weeks ago. Were you just like "Whoa! Bondage to cancer in under a second!"? That's kind of how shocking the diagnosis was. A lot of people have been in this kind of situation before; I know we aren't the only ones. But it's heartbreaking to watch my mom cry over an uncertain future, and it's hard to not to feel heavy at the thought of what might be. I don't believe in a higher power, but I do think that being positive, sending positive energy into the universe (as new age as that sounds) is important.

So sorry about your mom's BF. I hope there will be a good outcome. They can do so much these days! I know people who have come back from the very brink of death. And despite the sadness of your last item, I can't help but laugh at the lost opportunity of that third anniversary. Darn!

I'm assuming you would wear that dress for a kinky s & m moment? I can't say I've ever tried 'dressing up' for my boyfriend but it would be interesting to. I've never been in a sex shop either but I've been meaning to work up the nerve...

Thanks, everyone for all the kind words about my mom and her bf. She reads the blog and has to come to know each of you through your comments. I know it will cheer her immensely. I feel weird writing about everything, but it has so consumed my life, that soemtimes I have trouble remembering to think of other things. Anyhow, yeah, thanks.

Valley Girl: Not weird at all! Why do you think I posted 'em... :) (Normally, I'd do a wink there, but I kind of can't bring myself to type those quite yet.)

Jen: I'm still a little iffy on sex shops. Also, I prefer lace to leather. But that's just me.

I truly hope things turn out well with your mom's boyfriend.

Also, it's astonishing how similar some of your six things were to mine (listening to songs repeatedly, speedreading and a love of British comedy of manners type books.)

And congrats on the anniversary.

BB: Thank you for 1-3!

Ambika: Where's your six? I don't remember reading it. Also, thanks for the kind words...

just catching up on everything i've missed around here. i'm so terribly sorry about your mom's boyfriend. i also believe strongly in positive thinking, although at times like this it can be difficult. i think laughing can be kind of healing too. again, not always the easiest thing to do. i'll be hoping for the best for your family and sending hugs your way. take care.
