Friday Favorites: Basics Covered

I'm in a very traditional mood today: ruby, diamond, sapphire, emerald, pearl... they're the only gems that can sate me. Must be gold.

(Ack! It's snowing!)

18K Gold ring with Ruby, Diamond or Emerald by Phoenix Roze, $580 each

I like these rings because they remind of something I've been lusting over forever. Sarah B. bought this vintage ring in Paris and I've been looking for it's modern equivalent ever since. Or maybe Sarah B. will decide to travel the world and dispose of all her worldly possessions in a fit of "Material goods? Meaningless!" Then I will buy it from her.

Conroy and Wilcox Freshwater Pearl Abacus Bangle, $2500

Gold and Ruby Waterfall Necklace, $4,400

Sapphire Snaffle Bit Brooch, £646.81

(P.S. Apparently, snaffle bit is a horse term. Fun set of words, right?)

I love the look of the waterfall necklace. I have a nice onyx and gold necklace by Gurhan from back in the day. Sadly, I can't wear it because it would look crazy to wear another designer's jewelry. I got that necklace when I exchanged another one that my husband bought me, which, coincidentally was ruby. For some reason, I put the necklace in a different box than it came in..one with a white satin lining. When I took it out there were pink spots all over. The rubies had been treated with oil. Rubies are usually heat-treated for color but not oiled for clarify like emeralds. I don't know if the designer knew about the quality or if his supplier screwed him, but I was furious and refused to keep the necklace.

That little jewel and leaf ring is lovely. How do you feel about opals?

Oh, I missed this post while I was out of the country! All you need to do to get this ring is go to the giant flea market in Paris. In a time machine!
