Today's Jewelry

It is so hard to dress for this weather without packing a million extra pieces of clothing. Black dress layered with black long sleeve tee. Last minute change hence the somewhat boring jewelry. I was aqua- and golding it out before I left this morn, but decided I would be too chilly. Silver hoop earrings from H&M--I tend to buy unusual silver hoops on the spot because it's hard to find them. For the most part, I kind of hate the plain ones. Onyx ring from... I am 99% sure this is from a NYC street vendor. It was at the 26th street flea market, if I am not mistaken. I liked the design. Also, I wear a lot of black, especially once it gets cool outside. The optimist in me hopes to wear a lot of bright jewelry with it, but, well, I usually wear black jewelry. It makes me sad.

I like the double hoops. With the black jewelry, you are SOOOO Queen Victoria. Nothing wrong with that!

Because she mourned forever? If I am thinking of the right one, I just finished a book in which a young widow was constantly reprimanded by her mother for not wearing the appropriate mourning, not like the beloved queen did, anyhow. Cute series by Tasha Alexander about a woman libber before that really existed. She solves mysteries and lots of men fall in love with her. Fun!

Well Victoria mourned forever, but all the ladies followed her lead with the black jewelry just because it became so chic! You're good at finding the historical mysteries, aren't you.

I got a little worn down by the regular historical fiction. A little depressing, you know? So my bf and I have been consistently on the hunt for these kind of books. My favorite as of late is Indiscretion by
Jude Morgan. I like books about "society" and manners" and the Victorian era.

This one made me laugh out loud often. Very witty.
