Today's Jewelry

I went a little kitschy today:

Love Me: Yes or No? Brass Heart Necklace from Day-lab (I think; one of those craft joints at the very least). The deal behind this necklace is that I really wanted to get it at the Williamsburg Craft Fair, but a friend talked me out of it. (Too "cutesy" said she.) I couldn't stop thinking about it, and after a week, finally succumbed. Brass bracelet from Cape Cod thrift shop; earrings from... don't know, actually. They are cheapies, but the color matches a lot. Black minidress with green and magenta pattern.

Anatomy of a Sunset

When I get home at night, the sun is setting, and the sky has been turning the most extraordinary colors. The only good thing about the end of summer...

Melissa Joy Manning Citrine Necklace, $462

Dana Kellin Sienna Mix Drop Earrings, $190

Rasberry Fire Quartz Necklace, $138

Vintage Garnet Ring, currently $157.50 on ebay

Pretty Prints

I know I normally try to stick to a theme, but today I was really digging Ananda Khalsa's Jewelry.

Oval Maple Necklace, $235 (also available as a ring)

Silver Crane Ring, $190

Hinged Bluebird Bracelet, $710-1025

Willow Moon Ring, $155

I've also been abused by an Excel spreadsheet, and am trying to bounce back. Longer post when I recover.

Today's Jewelry

As I got dressed this morning, I put a little bit more thought into my jewelry, knowing that I'd be posting about it. I settled on the following:

This necklace was another collaboration with Em, the jeweler who I wrote about here. I told her that I was looking for a chunky, light piece to wear with greys, blacks and purples for winter and fall (last year). I've always liked the presence (like, hello! look at me wearing this big thing!) of multiple strand necklaces. We settled on moonstone, and she added snow jade to the finished product, which is composed of briolettes, nuggets (both faceted and very flashy), ovals, coins, rounds and small rondelles. I love this necklace and don't wear it nearly as often as I should. When I wear black, I always think it looks like a scattering of stars.
The earrings are another Nordstrom's Off the Rack purchase. If you haven't noticed, they are my go-to for marcasite. I like studs, but not too boring. (I really wanted to make a joke about my bf there, but am having trouble deciding. I like my men like I like my earrings: studs, but not too boring! There. I think that worked out well.)

The outfit is a black sweater set and a dark denim skirt with beige stitching.

The Other Side of Cheese

Ridiculously cute mouse and cheese pic found on this site: Arbroath.

So. I think I've advertised enough the fact that I've been sick since Wednesday, and was off work on Thursday and Friday. When left home alone (and ill), I'm stuck between knowing that rest is good for me, and wanting to shop on days when everybody else is at work. I split my time evenly between the following: the beach, which was blissfully empty and a surprisingly good recuperating agent; Marshall's (a designer discount store); and the couch. The cats and I cuddled up for several hours each day and settled into a Party of Five marathon. Do you remember this show?

Wikipedia notes:
"An American dramatic television series that premiered on FOX Network, September 12, 1994 and ended on May 3, 2000 after six seasons.
The show, a drama aimed at the teenage market and set in San Francisco, centered on five siblings who grow up orphans after their parents were killed by a drunk driver in an auto accident. Before becoming a hit, it dodged cancellation due to disappointing ratings for the early episodes. As a result, it is one of the lowest rated shows to ever win a Golden Globe award (1996 -Best Drama)."

I had maybe watched one or two episodes in it's heyday, but it turned out that the bf had been a pretty ardent fan. Two years ago, he had bought season 1 on dvd in the hopes that we could share the Po5 experience, but I couldn't sit through more then two episodes. I guess things changed when you are home sick and bored out of your mind. I watched about four episodes in a row each day, sending text messages to my bf: "Lacey Chabert looks like a midget. Seriously, something needs to be done about these overalls. They are not doing her any favors."
Then, when he got home from work, I would regale him with examples of the show's cheesiness, it's awfulness, Neve Cambell's cringe-inducing acting including but not limited to: breathy sighs, weird spastic tics and that squinting thing.

Anyhow, with the help of Wendyb, in tribute to gone-but-not forgotten Party of Five, here is a selection of jewelry inspired by the (utter cheesiness of the) show:

Swiss Cheese Ring, $95

Christoffersen International Silver Modernist Earrings, $150

Mouse and Cheese Domino Pendant, $20

Trendy Cheese Slice Sterling Silver Pendant, $13 ("Trendy"?)

Mysterious Gurl Earrings - Sterling Silver And Swarovski Crystals, $15

I Worship Cheese Bracelet, $20

Dapper Mouse & Cheese Chatelaine Pin Set, Sold

Oxidized Sterling Silver Dark Moon Earrings, $30

Mouse and Cheese Necklace, $45

Fancy Swiss Cuff, $180 (ring also available, text can be added to these pieces for an additional charge)

Phew.

Today's Jewelry

The positive is: the potato smell has vacated the premises. The negative: two days of work to catch up on (three if you count those damned UK people who were busy little bees yesterday), but the desire to blog has almost overtaken me!

I'm going to start small with Today's Jewelry, catch up on everybody's blogs that I've missed dearly, and then begin on what promises to be a pretty fun post revolving around cheese and a mid-90's TV show.

Without further ado...

This would be known as comfort jewelry. Clockwise: Marcasite ring that I love because of the thin, delicate silver band, probably purchased either in the city at a street stand, or Nordstrom again; ring on my hand; brown pearl type earrings--no idea where they came from, but they are of a pretty decent quality and make me suspect department store; my trusted Casio along with a bangle my mom got me. I usually always wear a bangle with this watch. The pattern in the background is my dress, which is dark grey with aqua spots.

I'll be more adventurous tomorrow when I am truly out of my post-sick haze.

It's all Potatoes

Whilst sick (it's fading, I'm getting better), the sinus infection took it's toll and I could only smell wet potatoes. I know. It did suck. Yesterday, I looked for about 15 minutes for what I'm about to post, but then was distracted by the cats. After complaining to the bf this morning, he came home and found a piece of potato jewelry for me to post about! (I, who had previously considered herself the mistress of google, could only locate potato pearl necklaces and potato craft for kids).

Without further ado, here is what I have been smelling for the past three days:
